One perfect series and done for Sam Bradford. No doubt, facing Baltimore's second-string defense made it easier for the former Oklahoma star drafted first overall.

Bradford impressed in his second preseason start, going 6-for-6 for 68 yards and a touchdown in the host Rams' 27-21 victory over Baltimore on Thursday night.

A.J. Feeley's thumb injury gave Bradford his starting shot last week, and the rookie might get the nod in the opener against Arizona.

The Ravens (3-1) held out all of their starters, plus backup quarterback Marc Bulger in his return to St. Louis after getting released by the Rams (3-1) in April.

Steelers 19, Panthers 3:
Byron Leftwich, expected to replace Ben Roethlisberger during his suspension, sprained his left knee in host Pittsburgh's 19-3 win over starter-less Carolina. Leftwich is feared to be out indefinitely, meaning Dennis Dixon would start.

Cardinals 20, Redskins 10:
With controversy swirling ahead of him on the Arizona quarterback depth chart, Max Hall wrapped up his preseason with a big night. The undrafted rookie from BYU completed 7 of 9 passes for 126 yards and scored on a 6-yard run. Hall directed Arizona to two TDs and a field goal in his three possessions. Derek Anderson, starting for the second week ahead of Matt Leinart, went 2-for-3 for 47 yards. Leinart was 3-of-5 for 14 yards.

Vikings 31, Broncos 24:
Denver rookie Tim Tebow outplayed host Minnesota's Tarvaris Jackson in the backup quarterback comparison, but the Vikings forced four first-half turnovers and beat the Broncos. Tebow was 12-for-16 for 167 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 21 yards on four carries. His favorite target was Matthew Willis, who caught five passes for 122 yards and a score. Minnesota native Eric Decker had 10 catches for 114 yards. Toby Gerhart had no rushing attempts.

Michael Vick led Philadelphia to a field goal in two series in his first start in four years, but the visiting Jets beat the Eagles 21-17. ... David Buehler kicked a 31-yard field goal as time expired, lifting host Dallas past Miami, 27-25. ... Vince Young threw a scoring pass, and LeGarrette Blount also ran for a score as the host Titans topped the Super Bowl champ Saints 27-24. ... Rhett Bomar might have nailed down the job as the Giants' backup quarterback by throwing a 60-yard scoring pass to Duke Calhoun with 1:49 to play to rally his team past the visiting Patriots 20-17. ... Cleveland's Colt McCoy went 13-for-13 for 131 yards in the Browns' 13-10 win over the visiting Bears. ... Jordan Palmer, Carson's kid brother, completed 10 of 14 passes as the visiting Bengals edged the Colts 30-28. Indianapolis was 0-4 in the exhibition season. ... Matt Cassel and Brodie Croyle each led touchdown drives and host Kansas City beat Green Bay 17-14, its first preseason win since 2008. ... Buffalo's Trent Edwards was 4-for-4 for 66 yards, but his visiting Bills fell to the Lions 28-23. Detroit's Jahvid Best didn't have a carry. ... Jacksonville's Luke McCown completed 5 of 12 passes for 39 yards as the host Jaguars topped the Falcons 13-9. Chris Redman completed 15 of 22 passes for 142 yards for the Falcons. ... Rudy Carpenter threw two TD passes to Arrelious Benn, and Corey Lynch returned one of his two interceptions 91 yards for a score to help Tampa Bay beat host Houston 24-17.

The question to DeMaurice Smith was simple, coming from Cincinnati receiver Chad Ochocinco, asking how serious he viewed the possibility of football not being played in 2011.

Smith did not hesitate.

"On a scale of 1 to 10," Smith said Thursday, "it's a 14."

With that, the executive director of the NFL Players Association painted perhaps the bleakest picture yet regarding prospects of labor strife in the league, which could be looking at a 2010 season with no salary cap and, if the collective bargaining agreement expires as scheduled in March 2011, a lockout that year.

"I keep coming back to an economic model in America that is unparalleled," said Smith, who often repeated phrases for emphasis. "And that makes it incredibly difficult to then come to players and say, on average, each of you needs to take a $340,000 pay cut to save the National Football League. Tough sell. Tough sell."

Smith said the NFL would receive $5 billion from its network television deals even if no games are played in 2011. He regarded that as proof owners are preparing for a lockout.
Wow, imagine a NFL lockdown! Wasting all this money, and no entertainment for us football loverrs!!:jawdrop:

The NFL is hosting an online auction of signed memorabilia through the first week of the regular season to support the New Orleans Saints’ Gulf Coast...

The NFL is hosting an online auction of signed memorabilia through the first week of the regular season to support the New Orleans Saints’ Gulf Coast Renewal Fund.

The charity auction on the league’s website is among festivities planned around the opening of the regular season on Sept. 9, when the Super Bowl champion Saints host the Minnesota Vikings.

Proceeds will help restore Louisiana’s fragile wetlands, which in the past five years have been severely damaged by major hurricanes and the recent BP oil spill.

Items in the auction include a Super Bowl helmet signed by Drew Brees, a Super Bowl football signed by the Saints, and game-worn jerseys from Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Eli and Peyton Manning, Randy Moss, Tony Romo and Mark Sanchez.

Raiders deny interest in Matt Leinart: The Oakland Raiders have plenty of roster moves they need to make before the start of the season.

Apparently trading for Matt Leinart isn’t one of them. The Raiders are denying an ESPN report saying the team has had discussions about trading for Leinart.

The Raiders say in a statement they have never discussed acquiring Leinart in a trade from Arizona and that they are “very happy” about their quarterback situation.

Jason Campbell goes into the season as the starter in Oakland. He sustained a stinger and an injured right wrist last week in an exhibition game but is expected to be ready for the season opener Sept. 12 in Tennessee.

Bruce Gradkowski and Kyle Boller are expected to be the backups.

Polamalu’s Hair Insured for $1M: Troy Polamalu’s hair is more than just a soft, silky handle by which to bring him down (and help him up) on a football field (attention: Larry Johnson). It’s real and it’s spectacular.

It’s also now a magnificent, million-dollar mane. Lloyds of London has written a policy on the Pittsburgh Steelers safety’s locks, in the kind of publicity stunt that rises to the top of search engines on the week before real sports resume after Labor Day. There’s a serious reason for Polamalu’s ‘do: he has not cut it since 2000 and wears it as a tribute to his Samoan ancestors. But there’s a product tie-in on the insurance: Polamalu endorses Head & Shoulders shampoo, whose parent company sought the policy.

“They’ve created the first ever insurance policy to protect his iconic mane for the entire NFL season,” Procter & Gamble said in a statement.

Nicks and Taylor were ejected on the fourth play of the Steelers' 24-17 victory, after Giants running back D.J. Ware had a 4-yard run to Pittsburgh 49. Nicks was blocking Taylor downfield when tempers flared and a number of punches were exchanged. At least three officials tossed flags.

Tim Tebow had 8 completions on 13 attempts for a total of 105 passing yards in Sunday's game against the Bengals. He also ran the ball twice for 10 yards including a touchdown run at the end of the game.

I like what I've seen from Tebow in one game so far. 8/13 is a very respectable night especially when one of your passes was dropped (and could have gone for a touchdown). I know he wasn't facing an NFL-caliber defense, but he did play very well except for 3 plays. The one where he got hit and luckily got an incompletion called, a fumbled snap, and a pass that was almost intercepted along the sideline. Other than those plays he had a very good night and his passes were pretty accurate and got to the receivers very quickly. That's always a great sign.
